For use underway or when planning passages in the future. This is an ideal resource for planning routes throughout Southeast Alaskan waters using sequential charts to predict how the current flow over large regions changes with time.
The charts in this atlas show scaled arrows marking current speeds and directions at each of the official stations at sequential hours.
Use slack times and maximum current speeds at Wrangell Narrows from the NOAA Tidal Current Tables to select the appropriate chart for specific dates and times.

I've been cruising SE Alaska summer and winter, for much of the past 7 years. I live-aboard a 50' steel Diesel Duck trawler that cruises at 7 knots. I routinely consult NOAA Tide & Current tables, do the necessary calculations and use that info when transiting Wrangell & Sergius Narrows and Inian Passage. But, most of the time, I just just accept whatever I get regards tidal flow, with me or against me, as I travel from A to B. Recently I commented that I wish I had the kind of big view, current direction and velocity plates I once used kayaking in the San Juan Islands in the 80s. And here it is, the "Southeast Alaska Current Atlas". This, in future, will be the tool I daily consult to determine the best transit times/routes. Southeast Alaska Current Atlas From Grenville Channel to Skagway eBook Randel Washburne David Burch Reviews
So happy this is back in print. I have the first edition and it was extremely useful while sailboat cruising in Southeast Alaska. I appreciate that the atlas clearly explains how to know which graphic page to use without having to buy yearly tables, like other current atlases (almost) require.
If you are heading to Southeast Alaska by recreational boat, get this atlas.
